Load Balancing

Manages cellular radio network load in today’s unpredictable patterns of high demand for bandwidth

What it does

Intucell’s SON Load Balancing (LB) deals with transient conditions of load. It takes advantage of load imbalances between neighbor cells by temporarily changing the RF footprint of cells in the area in order to share the load more uniformly between neighboring cells. The product shifts traffic between cells, based on availability, congestion, and blocking of radio resources. Dynamically reading instantaneous performance and loading conditions, it determines which cells to offload and which can be further loaded, so that the entire radio cluster is balanced. LB deploys highly sophisticated RF shaping algorithms which change the RF footprint of relevant cells in a robust, stable and controlled manner, thus achieving the best optimum between their coverage and capacity. The entire cycle is done automatically, while a graphic interface with a map overlay displays a real time picture of the optimization activity.

Key benefits

Self-Optimization Modules

  • Modifies the RF footprint of the loaded and surrounding cells in real time to fit the current usage demand and to match between subscriber distribution and available resources
  • Provides a near-real time response to rapidly changing and unpredictable load demands on the network, allowing better resource utilization and quick fixes to unbalanced traffic distribution
  • Continuously modifies relative size of cell to fit the current load conditions. But once the load conditions end, the system reverts the parameter changes back to the pre-load values

Economic Savings

  • Supporting multiple technologies and vendor offerings such as macro cells, small cells, femto cells, UMTS, LTE, GS/Edge
  • Simple and cost effective solution architecture
  • Software-based product
  • CAPEX savings: increased UTRAN efficiency resulting in less required network  expansions
  • Improved QoS by improved accessibility
  • More revenues through increased calls and data traffic
